Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first “novel” when she was nine, filling countless Woolworths’ exercise books as she grew up. Since having her daughter, Emma, she has been writing full time.

Her insightful and emotionally challenging books not only stretch reading ability, but give young readers a glimpse into many kinds of lives. Smart girls, strong girls, bad girls, brave girls. Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! These powerful stories of plucky girls in difficult circumstances won’t fail to strike a chord.

She has written over 70 best-selling books, and several have even been adapted for TV – most famously The Story of Tracy Beaker. Her signing sessions attract huge crowds of fans and last for hours! Over 25 million copies of her books have now been sold in the UK alone.

In 2007 Jacky Daydream was published, an inspirational true story of how a shy schoolgirl became a superstar author. This was followed by My Secret Diary, a captivating account of Jacky’s teenage years.

In June 2002 Jacqueline was given an OBE for services to literacy in schools, and she was the Children’s Laureate from 2005-2007. She also became a Dame in December 2007.

   I think this book is beautiful, I adore Victorian times! People say it’s sad but I don’t think it is, even when her mum dies I know she is still with Sapphire. I’m now reading Emerald Star.

   P.S I also got the book signed by Jacqueline Wilson herself! How exiting! : ]

    Hetty Feather (or as she prefers to be known, Sapphire Battersea) has returned. Fourteen years old and her last day at the Foundling Hospital. Soon to be pushed into the harsh, unknown, outside world, she becomes a servant for a sly old man. Hetty tries to be reunited with her mother, but things don’t quite go to plan.

    I found this book really depressing and it really upset me in places. I actually read another review of this book on Amazon, where a woman’s nine-year-old daughter actually burst into tears whilst reading this because it was so sad, and I can almost relate to that. Happy moments in this book were non-existent.

    Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this book a lot. It was really interesting, the characters were great and well-developed and the plot was gripping. Love the cover too! I was actually late for school one day because I couldn’t put the book down! The only flaw is that I’d start reading the book happily and when I finished I was sad and miserable, and not because it was the end of the book.

    Not a very light-hearted read and not entirely believable in places. Otherwise, though, this was quite a good book. Even though the age rating is 9+ I would recommend it to 11+. I recommend this book to fans of Jacqueline Wilson and fans of the Victorian-era. 3.5/5.

    This book is one of the best books I’ve ever read.Those who haven’t read this book have gotta read this amazing book.In some of the depressing parts like when hettys mum died I cried ALOT.

    this is my own story well only a short start the rest is coming!

      
        My name is Savannah Fee. And don't make fun of it. It's my name and nobody can ever take it from me. When i was little i always used to look up into the skies above and just sit there and conjure up wild daydreams. I love writing stories as well, but i never finish them.My mum says that i stick my head in the clouds all day long.
      
    

    My mum used to look at me and say i’ll be her beloved daughter for all eternity. She says i have gleaming hazel eyes that fill the place with glee and tufts of flaming red hair, peeping out of my hat. I felt that no one in the universe could be as astounding as my mother, until i was separated from her. I was taking a stoll in the park with mum when three men wearing black suits grabbed me by my arm and whisked me away in a dark van. I started to imagined mother sobbing into her jacket and calling out my name, constantly repeating ‘Savanna! Savannah!’

    Oh dear! Where shall I start? Read Hetty Feather first! This is an amazing book. I never cry at a sad book but this time I did. Oh, I just feel so sorry for Hetty. Everything changes just like that. That was one thing I disliked – just when she’d got her new life sorted, it disappeared. I really liked reading about her Sundays with Bertie. He was quite a comical character – carefree and confident. I really hope Hetty does fall for him! I can’t wait for the next book but I hope it’s much longer! Though Sapphire Battersea was almost 400 pages long, I finished it in three days. I want the next to be 4 times the length! An amazing book. My absolute favourite! When is the next coming out? I must know!! I’m reading it for the second time. I tried other books but I couldn’t bare being away from it for so long!

    Best BOOOOOOKKKKKKK Ever I cant wait till the next boook comes out i know what it is called it is called Emerald Star i cant wait for my libary to get the book so my mom is going to buy the 3 books for my brithday I think Hetty likes Jem more than Brite because in the next book ….......????i am not going to say anymore.

    This was the best adventure book I have ever read. And knowing what happened in the first book made it even better. Sapphire Battersea is my all time favourite character.

    This book is amazing! It is well-written, well-paced and a perfect sequel to Hetty Feather. It has a brilliant plot line and amazing characters, Jacqueline Wilson has clearly put a lot of time and effort into this book and it has payed off. A fantastic read.

    This is the sequel to Hetty Feather, and it is amazing. A sad thing happens in the book, and it made me cry, but the overall book is absolutely fab!

    I love this book!!!So sad but in the end it is happy I guess.I recomend this to any one who wants to read it but if you read it your gonna have to be able to take sad stuff well!

    This book was brilliant because Hetty or should I say Sapphire finally gets her freedom and ventures into the outside world. But not everything is as it should be. A tragic but light hearted tale of romance, friendship, loyalty and loss.

    I think this is a heart breaking story but i can promise you there is a happy ending and i adore red hair I WISH I HAD RED HAIR But mines black (how dull is that!!!) and I’m so HAPPY I FOUND SUCH A COOL BOOK

    Brilliant, a great plot line, quite funny in place but in some places is very sad. It has got a happy ending though. I can’t wait for the last one to complete the trilogy. This book did make me cry but that really doesn’t take much!

    I just loved this book! Because hetty has had such a bad life at the foundling hospital and is about to leave to her new life but its no as good as it seems, she looses so much and you really feel sorry for her but still its an amazing book!

    Sapphire Battersea is a very interesting book and once again Jacqueline Wilson has not and will not disappoint any of her readers.

    I loved Hetty Feather. So I could not wait until this book came out.

    It is what it says on the blurb. it is a tale of family, friendship, first love and loss. You certainly won’t believe your eyes.

    I rate this book 5 out of 5 in every category.

    Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for Sapphire Battersea. It is an awesome, mind-blowing book.

    My favourite character was Jim because he was really nice to Hetty in the story and he kept in touch with her and didn’t get annoyed when Hetty didn’t recognize him. My least favourite character was Ida Battersea because she left Hetty at the Foundling Hospital and Hetty got really sick. It was a real privilege having the chance to read this book because this book will not come out until September 2011, so thank you very much. I absolutely enjoyed it and i would rate this book 10/10 because it’s mind-blowing, astonishing, amazing and just thrilling.

    Om gosh this book is so amazing because Hetty’s mum is ….. I don’t want to give too much away but you’ll know what I mean when you finshed , Hetty love life is just chaotic I really want her to marry Gideon or Bertie but I bet she’ll she won’t marry him. This book took me about a week to finsh the illustrations are amazing ! truss =] enjoy this book all
