   Absolute classics for French

   These songs were written and recorded in the 1970s for the French teaching course Eclair. I loved them then as a child, and have used them for over 25 years on cassette, CD and YouTube. You won't find better for simple vocab and structures, catchy tunes played on actual instruments and sung by real people not computer generated. You will sing "quelle est la date..." for the rest of your life!

   Beware of the quality

   Bought the CD after listening to the cassette tape. However, you can tell that all someone has done is do a high quality recording of the cassette. Tracks 2 and 3 have parts on the CD where you can hear the tape being chewed by the tape player. The general quality of the CD isn't terrible, but its annoying to have the tape imperfections on a CD.

   The actual songs are great for the students. The language used is simple and fairly repetitive so that most students can pick up what is happening in each song.

   Un kilo de chansons

   Arrived today - fantastic! Have been waiting ages to get this on CD as I have been using cassette version for years till it broke last year. The songs are fantastic - easy to sing along and clear for picking out words in listening activites. Covers a variety of topics - town, food, birthdays and more and once you have heard 'quelle est la date de ton anniversaire' yo'll never get it out of your head! Can't wait to play it to year 8 tomorrow!

   Un Kilo de Chansons

   Discovered after clearing out a pile of old cassettes hurled about by our recent earthquake. I put on the cassette and was blown away by the variety and musical spice of the songs complete with fine musical accompaniment and lyrics which line up perfectly with our new Expo I text book. It may be 32 years old (young) but my class, first day back from the quake 'hiatus' , really got into the songs which have excellent repetition and relevant grammatical and lexical items. I have prepared lyrics (free on line) for all 8 of our junior French classes as well as a power point presentation. What a find!! I highly recommend these songs to any teacher of junior French but especially 13 year olds with a structured text for beginners. A big thanks to Jasper Kay, his band and his team for an essential accompaniment to young French learners. (13-09-10)
