Product description

Plunge readers into a whirlpool of excitement and emotion with an epic collection from one of our true greats. With his inimitable skill, Morpurgo shows how the most powerful stories can emerge from the most tragic events, including natural disasters and the terrible losses of war. Focusing especially on Morpurgo’s acclaimed war fiction, these hypnotic tales bring to life some of modern history’s darkest moments, including the bombing of Dresden, the war in Afghanistan and the horrors of the Indian Ocean tsunami. But even as his plucky characters find rays of hope amid the darkness, readers can also find relief in some more light-hearted fiction, including stories of King Arthur and the tale of a ghost pirate queen!

The amazing story when Albert(the boy) met Joey(the horse) then one day joey was gone albert was heart broken.Alberts dad;he gets drunk at market, bought joey home. This had changed Alberts emotions.Albert always got up gave his soothing owl sound to joey to make him feel good but on the other hand alberts horrible dad astonishingly treated him badly. was this fare? but months later war had arrived, meaning joey and his stable mate(zoey) had to leave.poor Albert not knowing were they had left. when hefound out he went as fast as he could. but was to late.Joey could not bare the harsh winters.soon was captured by germans then lost his soul mate zoey. this is a great book i would recomend it it is amazingly good.

Plunge yourself into a whirlpool of excitement and emotion with an epic collection from one of our true greats. In this pack of acclaimed favourites, Michael Morpurgo shows how the most powerful stories can emerge from the most tragic events, including natural disasters and the terrible losses of war. These hypnotic tales bring to life some of modern history’s darkest moments, including the bombing of Dresden, the ongoing war in Afghanistan and the horrors of the Indian Ocean tsunami. But it’s not all serious: light-hearted fun and fantasy are also in store for lucky readers, including tales of the legendary King Arthur and the rollicking story of a ghostly pirate queen!

Michael Morpurgo is a master storyteller, weaving captivating stories full of drama and intensity that are coming to be regarded as true classics. Exploring the most profound subjects with a light yet powerful touch, his books tell unforgettable stories in simple, direct words.

Michael Morpurgo discovered his talent for writing while working as a teacher. “We had to read the children a story every day and my lot were bored by the book I was reading. I decided I had to do something and told them the kind of story I used to tell my kids – it was like a soap opera, and they focused on it. I could see there was magic in it for them, and realised there was magic in it for me.”

Living in Devon, listening to Mozart, and working with children have provided most of the stimulae Michael needs to discover and write his stories. He spends about half his life mucking out sheds with the children, feeding sheep or milking cows; the other half he spends dreaming up and writing stories. “For me, the greater part of writing is daydreaming, dreaming the dream of my story until it hatches out – the writing down of it I always find hard. But I love finishing it, then holding the book in my hand and sharing my dream with my readers.”

We are reading Kensuke’s Kingdom at school and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have also read War Horse and Shadow; I would highly recommend them. Michael Morpurgo is an amazing author so I am sure the other books will be just as good.

There are many good stories here, some better than others but they are books that make you think and they are easy enough to get into. I liked them

Michael Morpurgo is a brilliant author who feels children’s books with real emotion rather than just shallow happily ever afters. There is something here for everyone, and I recommend him to everyone

I used to love Michael Morpurgo. If you are reading the Jacqueline Wilson books but want something with a bit more feeling and something more emotional I would recommend these. Some of his books are quite thick and some are a lot thinner- so there is something for everyone.
