Eva Ibbotson is the award-winning author of many books for children and adults. She has a daughter and three sons, who showed her that children like to read about ghosts, wizards, and witches “because they are just like people but madder and more interesting.”

She was born in Vienna, in Austria, but moved to England with her family when the Nazis came to power. After training to be a physiologist which she didn’t enjoy because she didn’t like doing experiments on animals, Eva got married and had four very nice children.

Her first children’s book, The Great Ghost Rescue was published in 1975, and she is best known for titles like Journey to the River Sea and The Dragonfly Pool. Eva died in 2010, aged 85.

    I got this book in a three-part set (The star of Kazan and Journey to the River sea) for my tenth birthday, and I didn’t read them until more than a year later. It’s the best book ever! It’s funny, powerful and moving, and surprising-I could not believe the plot twist in the middle! I would definitely recommend it! :)

    This book is really fascinating and the author has used good use of adjectives. This book is a wonderful rich adventure story and some parts made me emotional.

    This is a truly AMAZING book. I recommend this book to 11+ year olds as it is sad and moving. For example, the king is assasinated by a Nazi. The first hundred pages are just a build up for the plot so that part can be slightly boring but after that the book is so cleverly weaven together it makes you feel really good that you bought it.

    I love Eva Ibbotson, she puts SO much description into her books. If you have read this book, try, Journey to the River sea. This is also by Eva Ibbotson!

    This is a touching but funny book.The main character Tally tries to overcome the Nazis.I really enjoyed this book.I would recommend this book to people who like history and people who like adventure.
